Echinoctiul  este momentul in care ziua si noaptea sunt egale in orice loc de pe Pamant,deoarece Soarele se afla exact pe ecuatorul ceresc.

Echinoctiul de primavara este momentul cand Soarele traverseaza ecuatorul ceresc din emisfera sudica pana in emisfera nordica in data de 21 martie.

Echinoctiul de toamna este momentul cand Soarele traverseaza ecuatorul ceresc trecand din emisfera nordica in cea sudica pe data de 23 septembrie.
